Chapter 02 · Product descriptions

Descriptions That Answer Every Question A Buyer Has

Supplier descriptions appear on hundreds of other sites, so they give Google no reason to rank yours. We write original copy built around how your customers choose.

Supplier copy

“Stainless steel vacuum bottle. Capacity 750ml. Double wall. BPA free. Available in multiple colours. Premium quality product.”

Same text as every other retailer
Lists specs without explaining them
Ignores the questions buyers ask
Our rewrite

“Built for long commutes and day hikes, TrailFlask keeps water ice-cold for 24 hours and coffee hot for 12. The leak-proof lid locks with one hand, and the 7 cm base fits most car cup holders.”

Original, so it can rank on its own
Turns specs into real-life benefits
Answers fit, care and use questions
1

Who it’s for

The buyer and the moment they need it.

2

What it solves

The problem in their words, not ours.

3

Key specs

A scannable table with units that matter.

4

Proof

Reviews, tests, certifications and guarantees.

5

Care & FAQs

Fit, sizing, care and compatibility answers.

Chapter 03 · Titles and headings

Product Titles Built From What Shoppers Type

Shoppers search by brand, product type and the one feature they care about most. Each category needs its own title formula.

Title formula
Brand+Product type+Fit or style+Colour
BeforeNW-LS-204 Shirt
AfterNorthwind Linen Shirt, Relaxed Fit, Sage Green

Colour and fit are how most fashion shoppers narrow their search.

Title formula
Brand+Model+Product type+Key spec
BeforeKestrel K2 (Black)
AfterKestrel K2 Wireless Earbuds with Noise Cancelling, 40h Battery

Model numbers matter here, because buyers often search for them directly.

Title formula
Brand+Product+Main benefit+Size
BeforeLumi Serum 30
AfterLumi Vitamin C Face Serum for Brightening, 30 ml

Ingredient and benefit together match how people search for skincare.

Title formula
Brand+Product+Material+Size
BeforeOakline CT-120
AfterOakline Solid Oak Coffee Table, 120 cm

Material and size are the first filters furniture shoppers use.

The title tag and the on-page heading do not have to match word for word. We keep title tags around 60 characters so the key details are not cut off in results.

Chapter 04 · Variants

Colours, Sizes And Models Without Duplicate Pages

Variants are where many stores accidentally create hundreds of near-identical pages. The right setup depends on whether people search for each variant on its own.

Where variants do get their own URLs, we connect them with ProductGroup structured data, so Google understands they belong to one product.

Chapter 05 · Product lifecycle

What To Do When Products Sell Out Or Disappear

Deleting a sold-out product page throws away its rankings and links. Each stage of a product’s life needs a different, deliberate response.

1Pre-orderPage live early2In stockFull optimization3Out of stockStay live, show restock4Replaced301 to the new model5DiscontinuedKeep or 410
Go live early

Pre-order

Publish the page early with pre-order availability, so it can start ranking before launch day.

Optimize

In stock

Full optimization: rich results, reviews, internal links from categories and guides.

Never delete

Out of stock for now

Keep the page live, mark it out of stock or back-order, show a restock date and alternatives.

301 redirect

Replaced by a new model

Redirect permanently to the successor, so links and rankings carry over.

Keep or 410

Gone for good

Keep it as a helpful page with alternatives if it still earns traffic or links. Otherwise return 410.

Chapter 06 · Structured data

Product Markup That Search Engines Trust

Structured data tells Google, Bing and AI shopping tools exactly what you sell, what it costs and whether it is in stock. It only works when it matches what shoppers see on the page.

Product, Offer and AggregateRating on every product
Shipping and return policy details included
GTIN, brand and SKU for accurate product matching
ProductGroup for variants with their own URLs
Prices and stock kept in sync with your feed
Checked in Search Console’s product reports every month

Chapter 07 · Images, video and reviews

The Proof That Persuades Shoppers And Search Engines

Original photos and genuine reviews are among the hardest things for competitors to copy, and the most persuasive for buyers.

Original photography

Multiple angles, scale and in-use shots, not the same supplier images every competitor uses.

Fast, sharp images

Modern formats, correct sizes for each screen and the main image loaded first.

Descriptive file names and alt text

So image search and screen readers understand each photo.

Short product videos

Demos and how-tos with VideoObject markup, hosted so they load quickly.

A steady flow of reviews

Automatic review requests after delivery, with replies to every negative review.

Questions and answers

Real buyer questions answered on the page, which also feeds long-tail searches.

Questions, answered

Product Page Optimization Questions, Answered

Straight answers to what store owners ask us most.

Can I use the manufacturer’s product descriptions?

You can, but they rarely rank because the same text appears on many other sites. Original descriptions for your top products usually make a clear difference, and we prioritize the products that earn the most.

How do I get star ratings to show in Google?

Reviews need to be collected from real customers, shown on the product page and marked up correctly. Google decides when to show stars, but without valid review markup they will not appear at all.

What should I do with out-of-stock products?

If they are coming back, keep the page live and mark them as out of stock with alternatives. If they are replaced by a new model, redirect to it. Only remove pages that have no traffic, links or replacement.

Should each colour or size have its own page?

Usually not for sizes. Colours or models deserve their own URLs only when people search for them separately. We decide from your search data.

Does product page speed affect rankings?

Yes, page experience is part of how Google evaluates pages, and slow product pages also lose sales. Image optimization and fewer heavy apps are usually the biggest wins.

Will you change our product page template?

Where needed, yes. Most improvements happen in the template, so they apply to every product at once. We work with your developer or platform theme.

How many products can you optimize?

Template fixes cover the whole catalog. Hand-written descriptions are usually done in batches, starting with your top-selling or highest-margin products.
