Know The Difference

On-Page vs Technical SEO: Two Halves Of One Job

On-page SEO is what people and search engines see. Technical SEO is everything that makes it possible for them to see it at all. You need both working together.

On-Page SEO

What is on the page

The words, headings, links and media on each page, shaped around what your customers search for and what they expect to find.

CoversTitles, meta, headings, content, internal links, images, schema
ExampleRewriting a service page so it answers the exact question people type into Google

Technical SEO

What sits underneath

The site's foundations: how it's built, how fast it loads and whether search engines can crawl, render and index it without hitting walls.

CoversCrawling, indexing, speed, mobile, HTTPS, redirects, site structure
ExampleFixing a robots.txt rule that quietly blocked your entire blog from Google

Together

Why you need both

A beautifully written page nobody can find is wasted. A lightning fast page with thin content will not rank either. We handle both sides as one project.

CoversOne plan, one team, one set of priorities
ExamplePages that load fast, read well and show up for the searches that bring customers
The Three Layers

How Search Engines Actually Read Your Page

Every page goes through the same three stages before it can rank. If it stumbles at any one of them, the next two never get a fair chance. We work on all three.

LAYER 01

Can it be found?

Search engines need to crawl, render and index the page before anything else matters.

Crawl paths and robots.txt
XML sitemaps and canonicals
JavaScript rendering checks
LAYER 02

Is it understood?

Once indexed, the page has to make its topic, intent and entity crystal clear, to Google and to AI answer engines.

Search intent and keyword mapping
Headings, schema and entities
Internal links that give context
LAYER 03

Does it deliver?

Finally, real visitors need a fast, stable, mobile friendly page that answers them and nudges them to act.

Mobile layout and readability
Clear calls to action

Written to win the click, not just stuff a keyword. Unique for every page and sized to display properly.

02

Heading Structure

One clear H1 and a logical outline underneath, so readers and crawlers can follow the page at a glance.

03

Content & Search Intent

We match each page to what searchers actually want, then fill the gaps that stop it from being the best answer.

04

Internal Linking

Links between related pages that pass authority to your money pages and help Google see how topics connect.

05

Schema Markup

Structured data for services, products, FAQs, reviews and articles, to earn rich results and AI citations.

06

Image Optimization

Compressed, next-gen formats with descriptive alt text. Faster pages, better accessibility, more image search traffic.

The Checklist

Site-Wide And Page-Level, Nothing Skipped

XML sitemap is clean, current and submitted
Every page served securely over HTTPS
Canonical tags point to the right versions
No redirect chains or loops
Server responds fast and reliably
Mobile and desktop versions match

Broken internal links are fixed
Search Console and analytics set up correctly

Page-Level Checks

Done for every page that matters
Title tag is unique, clear and the right length
Meta description earns the click
One H1, with a logical heading outline
Content matches the search intent
Main keyword and related terms covered naturally
Internal links in and out of the page
Images compressed, sized and described
Page passes Core Web Vitals on mobile
Relevant schema added and tested
A clear next step for the visitor
Speed That Counts

The Core Web Vitals Targets We Work To

Google measures how your pages feel to real visitors using three numbers. We aim to put every key page in the green, on mobile first.

LCP

Largest Contentful Paint

≤ 2.5s
Good ≤ 2.5sPoor > 4s

How quickly the main content shows up. Usually fixed with image, font, server and caching work.

INP

Interaction to Next Paint

≤ 200ms
Good ≤ 200msPoor > 500ms

How fast the page responds when someone taps or clicks. Heavy scripts and plugins are the usual cause.

CLS

Cumulative Layout Shift

≤ 0.1
Good ≤ 0.1Poor > 0.25

How much the page jumps around while loading. Fixed by reserving space for images, ads and embeds.

Thresholds are Google's own, measured at the 75th percentile of real visits.

Questions, Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

The things people usually ask before they hand us their website. If yours isn't here, just ask.

What's the difference between on-page and technical SEO?

On-page SEO is about what's on each page: the content, titles, headings, links and images. Technical SEO is about the site underneath: how fast it loads, whether it's secure and whether search engines can crawl and index it. They work best done together.

How long before we see results?

Technical fixes like unblocking pages or fixing redirects can show up within a few weeks, once Google recrawls the site. On-page improvements usually take two to three months to show their full effect in rankings and traffic.

Will you make changes directly on our live website?

Only if you want us to, and never without your approval. We test changes on a staging copy first. If you have your own developers, we hand over clear tickets instead.

Can you fix Core Web Vitals on WordPress or Shopify?

Yes. Most speed problems on these platforms come from heavy themes, too many plugins or apps, unoptimized images and third party scripts. We fix what can be fixed and tell you honestly when a theme is the real bottleneck.

Do you need access to our website?

For an audit, read-only access to Google Search Console and Analytics is enough. To implement fixes, we need admin or staging access to your CMS, or we work alongside your developer.

Does this help with AI search too?

It does. ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews rely on pages they can crawl easily and understand clearly. Clean structure, fast pages and good schema help you get cited in AI answers as well as ranked in search.

Will a site migration hurt our rankings?

It can if it's rushed. We map every old URL to a new one, check everything before launch and monitor closely afterwards, so any dip is small and short.

How often should on-page and technical SEO be done?

The big fixes happen once. After that, sites change all the time with new pages, plugins and updates, so we recommend a light monthly check and a deeper review every quarter.

Is this a one-off project or a monthly retainer?

Either works. Many clients start with a one-off fix project, then move to a smaller monthly plan to keep things healthy and keep optimizing new pages.

Will you sign an NDA?

Of course. We're happy to sign one before you share anything about your site, your data or your plans.
